Taungana seeks to create a supportive ecosystem that encourages sustained female student engagement in STEM in alignment with UNESCO’s Global STEM Initiative, the SADC Protocol on Science, Technology and Innovation, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, Taungana introduces a regionally integrated strategy to address socio-economic and gender barriers to STEM engagement for rural high school girls across sub-Saharan Africa, starting with Southern Africa.
We achieve our goals in the following ways:
A high school fellowship launched by our flagship STEM Expo—a one-week, multi-industry immersion and entrepreneurship bootcamp. Ambassadors (rural high school girls) receive ongoing support through a mentor network and community outreach events.
Outreach events and workshops in rural communities across Africa catalyze mass STEM awareness. These initiatives inspire young minds and strengthen the Ambassador support network, fostering a culture of STEM where it is most needed.
A network of Taungana Alumnae who have graduated from high school and are now pursuing STEM education and careers. These bright female STEM talents are matched with supportive corporations for internships and graduate programs.
Data from rural Africa is analyzed to identify and understand barriers to STEM engagement. This intelligence informs targeted interventions, supports policy advocacy, and shapes sustainable resource strategies, ensuring all initiatives are data-driven and impactful.
An online community for STEM practitioners and thought leaders, fostering collaboration and developing solutions to industry challenges.
